How it works

How TechSteady works

TechSteady sits above the existing MSP or internal IT function. It does not replace them. It manages them.

The three-tier model

Different portcos need different levels of IT leadership. Rather than a single package, TechSteady operates across three tiers. Each tier includes everything in the tier below it.

1

IT Management

The foundation tier. Supplier oversight, cost control, licence management, security baseline and monthly reporting against agreed metrics. Most portcos start here. IT stays on track without the overhead of a senior hire.

2

IT Direction

Everything in Tier 1 plus strategic IT leadership. Technology roadmap, board reporting, risk management and alignment with the investment thesis. For portcos where IT needs direction, not just management.

3

IT Build-Out

Post-acquisition or carve-out transformation. Build the IT function, establish the operating model, recruit the team. Once internal capability is in place, TechSteady transitions off and the portco runs independently.

Above the support layer, not beside it

TechSteady does not deliver IT operations. It does not run helpdesks, fix hardware, or handle end-user support. Those are the responsibilities of the MSP or internal IT team. What TechSteady does is manage that relationship on behalf of the portco board.

That means reviewing what the MSP or internal team is delivering against what the portco is paying. Challenging where costs have crept. Ensuring the security baseline is being met. Flagging where contracts do not fit the hold period. Reporting to the board on whether IT is heading in the right direction.

If the MSP or internal team is performing well, TechSteady ensures it continues to. If it is underperforming, TechSteady recommends a change. The investment team gets a single, consistent view across the entire portfolio.

Monthly review cadence

Every portco on Tier 1 or Tier 2 receives a monthly review. This covers: IT cost tracking and licence utilisation. Supplier performance and contract status. Security posture against the agreed baseline. Risks, issues, and recommendations.

For the PE house, TechSteady provides a consolidated portfolio view across all portcos. One reporting standard. One point of contact. One service provider.
